FAST FACTS
In 2014, scientists August 2015
landed a probe on March 2015
the comet. It came December
from the spacecraft 2015 December 2014
Rosetta, which also September
landed on it in 2016. 2016 November 2014

Rosetta followed Comet P67/C-G Mars
as it orbited the Sun. One complete Comet
orbit takes 6.45 years. Rosetta
The comet has two lobes (or parts),
which suggests that two smaller
bodies probably joined together.
Comet P67/Churyumov
Gerasimenko was named after
its Russian discoverers in
1969. Recently, spacecraft
and probes have spent long
periods studying its dusty
surface and dark interior.
The coal-colored crust has
an outer layer of carbon-
based material. Inside,
the comet’s small core
is a “dirty snowball”
made up of ice and dust.
