Paedophryne amauensis,
is just over ¼ in (7.7 mm)
long—about the size of a
fly. It is not only the smallest
frog, but also the smallest
vertebrate (animal with
a backbone). It was
discovered in Papua
New Guinea in 2009.
FAST FACTS
The biggest species of frog is the Goliath, which
comes from Africa. It is more than two-thirds
the length of a house cat. It would take
41½ Paedophyrne amauensis frogs
to make a line of the same length.
