This big American hunting dog probably descends from the
Bloodhound (see p.141) and a now-extinct old English breed Ears low and
Tail set slightly set well back
called the Talbot Hound. Tough and powerful, the Black below level of back
and Tan Coonhound is a superb tracker of raccoon,
opossum, and even cougar, baying loudly
when it has chased its quarry up a tree.
