Viscacha

S outh America’s highest mountains are the kingdom of the

viscacha. It has a body and ears like a rabbit, legs like a
kangaroo, and a long tail like a squirrel, but its closest relative is

actually the chinchilla. Its long back legs help it jump from rock
to rock, and it can easily climb steep cliffs.

Up in the mountains, the air is chilly and fierce winds blow. To
stay cozy, the viscacha has very thick fur. It also spends hours in

the morning sitting in the sun with its eyes closed. Hundreds of

years ago, the Inca people used to wear clothes made from this
                         animal’s soft fur.

Viscachas often roll around in the dust.

This is a great way to get rid of bugs!
