Toucan









                                                                I   t’s easy to see why the Aztec people



                                                                    thought that a toucan’s beak was
                                                                 made from rainbows. The colorful bill

                                                                  is so enormous you wonder how this
                                                                  beautiful bird can move. In fact, the

                                                                  beak has thin sides and is filled with
                                                                  air spaces, so it is actually very light.

                                 Its sharp edges are perfect for snipping off fruits from forest trees.
                                 Swallowing is tricky, though—the toucan has to become a jungle

                                 juggler by tossing the food up in the air, then quickly opening wide
                                 to catch it. Gulp! Toucans live in small flocks and call to one another

                                 with loud, frog-like croaks as they hop from tree to tree.
