Mantis shrimp
Mantis shrimp can see ultraviolet light,
which is what causes sunburn.
M antis shrimp are definitely not wimps. The peacock mantis
shrimp has a pair of deadly clubs on the ends of its front
legs, which it holds tucked under its head, ready and waiting. When
a crab or other shellfish comes near, the shrimp attacks as fast as a
bullet, smashing open its prey’s shell. Its punch is so quick, the water
around its club boils and it even releases light!
This colorful creature has another secret weapon—its super eyesight.
Its two eyes are packed with special sensors. Each eye can quickly
figure out exactly how far away its dinner is. Humans have to use
both eyes to do the same thing.
