Sea slug
T hey may look like aliens from another planet, but sea slugs live
in the ocean. Like their cousins that you can find in a garden,
these slugs have soft, squishy bodies with no shell. They glide across
the seabed on their slimy foot, squeezing into tiny gaps on coral reefs.
With their colorful skin and weird horns, sea slugs, such as the
variable neon slug, look like they are headed to a costume party.
Even the branching gills on their back are multicolored. Yet their
bright colors are sending a message: “do not touch!” The skin of
some sea slugs contains poison strong enough to kill crabs and fish.
Sea slugs are both female and male at the same time.
This means that they can all lay eggs.
