Scorpion
W hat’s that hiding in the shadows? Yikes!
It’s a scorpion. Related to spiders, these
terrifying-looking creatures have powerful
pincers and a flexible tail tipped with a
venomous sting. Quick as a flash, they can
flick this over their head to defend themselves
from hungry predators. One of the largest scorpions
is the emperor scorpion, which can grow up to 8 in
(20 cm) long. Most scorpions grab insects to eat, but
even mice and lizards have to watch out when the
emperor scorpion is around.
Many scorpions live in rain forests, but some live in deserts.
These tough scorpions may never drink and can go a full
year between meals.
