Rhinoceros
A rhino has fantastic hearing.
Its cup-shaped ears help it catch sounds.
R hinoceros means “nose horn.” There
are five species of rhino, some with
one horn and others with two. Unfortunately,
their horns are the reason why these huge
herbivores have been hunted almost to
extinction. Some people believe rhinoceros
horn works as a medicine, but it is made from
the same material as human hair and nails.
The white rhinoceros is found grazing in the savannas
of Africa. Rhinos eat a lot and can dump more than 44 lb
(20 kg) of dung a day! Every rhino’s dung smells different, and
their piles of poop can send smelly messages to each other.
