Frog
A n ugly frog turns into a handsome
prince in the fairy tale, but this
is unfair! Frogs come in all sorts of
amazing shapes and colors, and can
be very pretty. Poison dart frogs
can be multicolored, and
mossy frogs have stunning
camouflage. Their bumpy
skin helps them pretend that
they are clumps of green moss.
Most kinds of frog grow up by a
process called metamorphosis. They begin life as frogspawn—blobs
inside a coat of jelly. Wriggling tadpoles hatch out and breathe
underwater, using gills. Eventually they grow legs and become tiny
froglets. Now they can start to breathe air. Finally, they lose their tail
and become adults, ready to hop onto land!
