F ew animals swim as beautifully as otters. Their webbed feet
steer and give lots of power, while smooth, slippery fur allows
them to glide through the water. Otters are also fantastic at fishing.
Many use their long whiskers to feel nearby fish, even in dark water.
Most otters hunt in rivers and lakes. However, sea otters live on the
cold coasts of the Pacific Ocean. They are the furriest animals in
the world. Air trapped in their thick coat keeps them warm and helps
them float as they lie on their backs. This is how they go to sleep!
Sea otters like to eat prickly sea urchins and crunchy crabs. They
smash open their tough shells with a favorite rock.
