                                                                                                            Fauntroy holds the rifle
The weapon that was used to kill King
Within a few minutes of the shot being fired on that fateful
evening in 1968, Memphis police found a Remington 760
‘Gamemaster’ (a high-velocity rifle), several unspent rounds
and a number of other effects wrapped up in a bundle.
Interestingly, the rifle was not found at a vantage point –
instead it was discovered abandoned outside the Canipe’s
Amusement Store across the street from the Lorraine Motel
where King was staying. However, FBI and local police reports
differ on whether the rifle was actually the one used to kill,
with some suggesting the bullet recovered from King’s body
was incompatible with the purported murder weapon.
