                                               Illuminated Koran
                                               This gilded 18th-century
                                               Koran, a superb example
                                               of the elegant Islamic art
                                               of calligraphy, is not on
                                               display but preserved in
                                               the archives. The museum’s
                                               collection also includes an
                                               8th-century Koran in the
                                               ancient Kufic script, among
                                               the oldest of its kind in
                                               the world.
