               Elizabeth assumed
                the throne after the
                death of her Catholic
                sister Mary, upon
               which she faced an
              unstable nation torn
          apart by religious conflict.
         Over the course of her reign she
         fought enemies at home and
         abroad, uniting England under
         one church and oversaw the
