Bali and beyond:
a fresh look
Ever-evolving Bali has long been one of Australia’s
favourite family destinations. zac de silva and tabitha
wilson reveal some of the exciting new developments
your family can look forward to on your next visit.
Hot hotels
There’s a new hotel boom on the Island of the Gods,
which is great news for families. Currently under
construction on the southern tip of the Jimbaran district is
Emirati hotel chain Jumeirah’s latest development,
Jumeirah Bali. The new resort is slated for a 2020 opening
and will consist of spacious private villas with views over
the surf haven of Dreamland Beach. Renowned for its kids’
clubs, there’ll be plenty of activities for the little ones too.
The resort’s website promises architecture “modelled after
an ancient Javanese-Hindu water palace”. Sounds like all
the ingredients for a blissful hotel stay.
Shangri-La is planning to set up shop in the trendy
tourist district of Nusa Dua with its new resort, Shangri-
La’s Bali Resort & Spa, The Maj Nusa Dua due for a 2020
opening. Set to be paradise for families, a number of the
resort’s 337 rooms, suites and villas will be designated
family suites, with a secret tunnel connecting the two
bedrooms. Expect fun, themed rooms for the kids and
plenty of creative and nature-inspired kids’ activities to
keep them busy during the day.
Raffles is also expanding their impressive collection of
properties to Bali, with Raffles Bali set to open in 2020.
The ultimate in luxury, the new resort will hide out in
beautiful Jimbaran Bay and consist of just 32 private
villas, each with a private pool. The resort will flaunt the
famous Writers Bar as well as a restaurant in the heart of
the resort that celebrates Balinese architecture and fresh,
traditional cuisine.
