Coming face to face with the real-life stars of
The Lion King or The Jungle Book may be a
bucket-list birthday wish for many an animal
lover, but zoos are often used as an arena for
entertainment and keeping animals visible
rather than happy. However, many zoos are
now taking a more progressive approach
with a focus on the welfare of wildlife and
conservation programs to help threatened
species thrive. These zoos are inviting guests
to be a part of the animals’ environment
rather than vice versa, and are working to
educate the Jane Goodalls and David
Attenboroughs of tomorrow.
