“The Voodon translation circuitry I have has a sympathetic resonance with her vocalisations. The
gestures are a form of sign language that the Kregan developed about the middle of their thirtieth
century” she replied “The Doctor wants my assistance in the Med Bay. Twinkle says she will behave
if she can take a look at our ships specifications to assess docking compatibilities” she added and
left. Midas passed her on his way in from the corridor. He stopped short when he saw Twinkle, but
some silent communication between Lucy and him seemed to put him at ease.
“Mechanoid short range coms” a Coms officer said to a puzzled looking Dagnor.
“Leeson show twinkle what she needs to see; Navigation plot a course to align us near the lateral
line of the array” Dagnor ordered. Twinkle seemed to flash rapidly through the ships specifications
then stood back. She looked over at Midas and spoke softly in a series of simple tones and clicks.
Midas looked surprised then he in turn spoke.
“I actually understood that. Captain; with a slight modification we should be able to dock a shuttle
craft with one of the Platforms secondary ports. Twinkle says if she can use a terminal in Engineering
she could work up a design for the adaptions we need to make” Midas said astonished. Twinkle
looked at Dagnor with the same enigmatic smile that she always seemed to wear; but winked the
membranes of her left eye.
“T’luha; would you do the honours? I’ll get things ready at this end. Leeson does that Biologist have
any more of those Mini-Globes?” he ordered
“I believe so sir. I see what you’re thinking. T’luha show Twinkle one of the Mini-Globes and how it
operates. If my suspicions are correct; Twinkle will not need her encounter suit, but we will need
some form of protection or a remote way of contacting whoever we find on board the platform”
Leeson responded. T’luha took Twinkle by her tiny; four fingered hand and left for Engineering.
Twinkle looked up at her and smiled wider and also did another wink…
History’s Vault
Lance and Sandra were about to leave the rest of the files to other team members when
Sandra spotted something in the Library Terminal’s index.
“There’s an entry here about an archive in a Vault on the ground floor. It’s from the period Post
Economy wars; from around the time of the First Expansion. Apparently it contains a list of all the
Missing missions. There’s a footnote; just two words… Abductions Histories” She announced
“What?” Lance said incredulously. He looked up the Vault number in the buildings site layout. “It’s in
the East quarter; and from what I can make out, that area was abandoned on orders of the President
elect of the time” he stated
“We’d better check it out ourselves. Things are on a pretty even keel here; and besides; I left our
lunches up in the main lobby” she winked.
The two of them made that excuse and headed up to the ground floor. Nobody was
watching as they slipped into the corridors that lead to the east corner vaults. They did in fact leave
their lunches in the lobby and managed to retrieve them as they passed by. The Vault they wanted
was situated at the end of a corridor on its own. The lock was an ancient mechanical push button
type. Thankfully the listing in the Library Terminal had
given one of the five accepted codes. Lance entered
the sequence and tried the handle to the door. It
creaked as it pulled back the bolt and the door swung
open. A light automatically lit up the interior which
resembled a small office. The walls had a number of
metal Shelves upon which were stacked piles and rows
of small rectangular objects. There was a desk with a
terminal of some description that had an ancient kind
of keyboard. There was a writing pad, and writing
implements on the desk also. Lance wandered over to
the shelves while Sandra attempted to get the ancient
