experiment after experiment, some truly gruesome. Then suddenly Sandra shouted “Hold it there;
that Human male. Lance that’s the individual in the Sarcophagus” she exclaimed. She quickly
explained about the side research Lance had been doing and about the discoveries in Fort Knox.
They watched the next three sequences carefully. A graphic of a set of glyphs in the top right corner
appeared to show a clock and date arrangement. The three sequences were spread over a number
of periods. In one sequence a piece of lung was deftly removed; examined and put back. In another
they appeared to be harvesting cells from the poor man’s genitalia. The male Terran members in the
audience winced. In the last sequence it looked like they were implanting something in the left
hemisphere of his cranial cavity. Sandra ordered the sequence stopped. She notices something on
the “Surgeon’s” hand.
“That symbol on the glove; It’s from the pictorial version of Bachi” she announced It is sometimes
used by the natives of Androbar in the Salidar system. They use it to denote one of their Sky Gods…
Bethsush!” she said “Now some of the symbols on that fragment are beginning to make sense” she
added
“If you are referring to the story from the Machine world of Katrine about their creator myth…”
Lance started to say but stopped short changing to “… Oh! I get it! The alien language may have
three components! Clever!” he explained what he and Sandra had just realised. The aliens; could be
the Curators or one of a related species that are present in the histories of many worlds spread
across the two galaxies. It had been noted that symbols and glyphs seemed to recur in many
languages. It’s was always noted also that the advance races on those world carried the genetic
markers to allow Telepathic development. “…This could point to a root language that has; not only
the written and sonic components, but very probably has a Telepathic component… Like Kryst “B”
The Kryst claim that their ancestors were taught their language by Space Visitors; long go!” he
finished. Ron Land and the others from the Archive stood dumbfounded for a moment… Then all hell
broke loose with orders flying left and right. Orders were given to get the man in the Sarcophagus
out and resuscitated as soon as possible.
“Sandra; we need to get this to the fleet and the Endeavour” Lance said as the two of them slipped
quietly away. She nodded in agreement. It was then that they both realised they had completely
skipped their lunch… Again! ...

Chapter 5
“Tread softly among these stars; for they are as like unto sleeping lions”

Dagnor was going over what they had encountered on the Platform. The experience had
been a mind bending one to say the least. Right now the Rest of the fleet were far behind them
doing further research on the platform. The Endeavour was speeding into the region at the rim of
the Third Galaxy. He mulled over what had happened after the shuttle had docked. Twinkle’s

adapter worked flawlessly. The doorway had what
appeared to be a wall mounted version of a “Listening
device” as Twinkle had called the Medallion around her
neck. As Leeson had surmised; once on board the
platform Twinkle shut down the helmet of her encounter
                                                    suit. The others had opted for Flutvarn Encounter suits;
Untharan Shielding systems and breathers from Kelgar in
the Sonoran Trust. These fitted over the mouth nose and
neck; just behind the Untharan force fields that protected
the wearers head. Twinkle had opened the door with a
series of clicks and tones. A sort of Airlock had been
behind that. They waited as the chamber normalised to the Platforms atmosphere before passing
through an inner door. The interior of the Platform was dimly lit and it took a while for the Terran,
Flutvar, and others to adjust. Midas simply adjusted his low light level sensor array to compensate.
The interior was fairly stark. With what looked like polished Black Basalt walls and floors. They were
