…The link with the Fleet was soon set up and Lance and Sandra waited for the image to
clear. They were back at Lunaris Central Archive. Myra’s face greeted them.
“The message you sent really intrigued me, and judging by what we’ve discovered here you may well
be right about the link with the Curators. I’m sending you a data burst with what we have so far.
Sandra Marsh isn’t it?” Sandra nodded “I read your work on Species Histories and Legends.
Impressive; especially the way you linked species development as well. I take it that you are in
charge of the works being done in the Fort Knox archives. I would appreciate a resume of what you
have to date. If all goes as expected here; we may end up working more closely together. We have
limited time due to the distances involved so please use data bursts for further communication.
Lance it has been so good to see you; and I like the new look it…” the image began to fade and the
last words were lost. The link ended; Lance had expected this, also that the visual element could only
be one way. Myra looked more mature than he remembered, and he was sure that was Zyra
hovering behind her.
“I didn’t know you were so well connected Lance; Myra Halaran no less. Was that Zyra Helgrav-
Gyron? I knew her older Brother Zane when I was at the Academy. She was also a promising
student.” Sandra said after a few moments.
“Our families practically grew up together. She’s older than me of course. I think of her as the older
sister I never had. Zyra on the other hand… That was purely adolescent sexual attraction I assure
you” he responded blushing.
“So there’s a darker side to that cherubic face” she giggled. The two of them collected the recording
of the data burst and set about collating the data for the return burst. A young trainee recorder
came rushing in almost breathless
“Sir; Madam, I think you may want to see what the Hive has found on one of the ancient storage
devices” he managed to say between gasps. He followed them to the Central Archive Hive room.
Ron Land the Head of the Archive and Brunner Helvard from the Lunaris Council of Elders were
watching a reconstruction of a “Video” file found on one of the hard drives. It portrayed a group of
experiments being conducted on members of various races. Ron Land spoke first
“Apparently that Government agency… the F.B.I. discovered an alien recording device and somehow
managed to get this conversion of the data on it. From their appearance they look similar to the
Ulahri. We’ve managed to identify seven of the races the “experiments” were conducted on.
Thankfully there’s no sound; as some of these surgeries look exceedingly painful for the “Guinea
Pigs”” He said calmly. As he spoke a sequence appeared of the removal of a gland from a Denorgan
female. She appeared to be awake during the whole procedure. Being reptilian; the Denorgan don’t
show expression in the same way as mammalian races. But this looked painful in the extreme. The
aliens examined glands; making scans and comparisons etc. then proceeded to reinstate the organs
back into the Denorgan females’ body.
“That looks like a shorter; stubbier version of a Kryst wand
device. And that other instrument… I’ve seen that before.
It’s similar to a Gantrax hand held scanner” Lance exclaimed
and he checked his Pad’s memory files and produced an
image “See. The tool is programmable to scan for a variety
of energy signatures. I can’t quite see the settings but… Ah;
there! It’s set to read encephalic trace signatures” he added
Brunner’s ears pricked up at that.
“Does that mean they were scanning for Telepathic ability? I
wonder. And you’re quite wrong about the Gantrax
connection young man. If the Temporal signatures of this
recording are correct this was long before the Gantrax ever ventured near this Galaxy” he said.
Lance felt humbled; and backed down to the Elder’s knowledge. They continued to watch
