“We encountered them in the Osir’s home galaxy when they
were first venturing out into space. That was long before I and
my generation came into being. They were strange to us, being
of a Hive mind nature with no sense of individuality” replied
Fred “We also found them particularly resistant to our mind
control!” He added with what counted for a grimace. Shirley
interjected…
“At that time they were still using verbal communication via
sub-space relay. Their encounters with the Unat soon changed
that. Their verbal communication system which they used in
the confines of their planetary hive cities may be of interest to
your biologists. Miranda and Isaac seem to have made great
strides in getting the alcoves useful to other life forms like
yourselves. When this is achieved it is hoped that you could
access the data we have on all the races we have watched and
studied. Please bear in mind our database is, as you say,
somewhat out of date!” the clone concluded.
“On Our part; we have been trying to find others of your respective races, but it would appear that
both races seem to have left this and the Osir’s galaxy for “pastures new” a long time ago” Rupert
countered adding “I take it you were responsible for the genetic marker code that we find in many
races in the two galaxies, a sort of indexing system perhaps?” Fido answered Rupert’s question…
“I’m afraid not. We found that and similar markers in all the life forms we studied, even the
magnificent reptiles that dominated Terra at the time of our crash landing. I feel sorry that we
contributed to their demise. But we had no control over the situation. Those beasts were on the
point of evolving to a higher form. The outcome of that would have been most interesting!” Fido
concluded. The Ulahri had mastered using the headbands easily once a power level limiter was
fitted. Their vocal chords had, as a race of telepaths, atrophied to the point of being useless. On the
whole the Ulahri were an overall enigma.
“When at first we set out to deceive…”
Across the galaxy Meorr and Fenton were using their visit to foster better relations between
the Lemur and the Unity, with some success. Catrah was more amenable to the idea than some of
her kind, likewise Meorr. Who had decided that a “relationship” with Fenton might prove an
interesting prospect, but things would have to be “taken slowly”. At Nova Thule; Ilka was compiling
her weekly report for her mysterious benefactor. Galena had no idea that Ilka had been trained in
her art by an acolyte of The Order. That acolyte was a cousin of Galena’s. Jason Kilroy-Hung was the
regions foremost espionage captain for The Order. Most people in the Unity recognised that The
Order was a Pseudo religious Sect, loosely based on the ancient Scientologists of old Earth. They
fostered relations with all sorts of organisations to get whatever they wanted or needed by
whatever means necessary. With the opening up of the former Dark Empire, The Order had fostered
links with a number of contacts of, shall we say, dubious nature, the Kinray Group being one of
them. As a source of information they had been very lucrative. Their use as partners soon showed
questionability, hence the recruitment of Fenton Briggs and some others as go-betweens and spies.
Ilka; being in the offices of the Unity High Council had proved a valuable asset and a means of
coordinating, collating and redistributing the gathered information. Nobody would suspect such an
innocuous clerk of being anything but that, a clerk and secretary.
