“I believe my young friend here has important information that might help your case. You
understand of course; he does this of his own volition and offers the information freely. I
must say that I was surprised with what he told me, and I thought, in the interests of
cooperation and to avoid any misunderstandings. I thought it best he gave you this
information also. In light of this news I have urgent business matters to attend to if we are
to avoid a Speight of “unfortunate incidents” that we could both do without. I therefore
leave this young man in your capable hands. I trust also that he will be dealt with fairly”
Mortimer announced and he and his goons departed. Marco stood there looking apologetic.
“Well Marco; we had been wanting to talk with you about Mr Lucerne’s suicide as you were
most likely the last person to see him alive, but now you’re here…” Lomax started to say but
Marco interrupted
“I can assure you that Korin Lucerne was alive and well when I left; though you would no
doubt know that from the staff. My news is about recent events at City Hall, my second in
the “Boys Cartel” works as a retriever there. He says there have been a number of odd
requests for plans and other details of various premises from the archive” Marco said
“We know about some requests made by The Carnegie Syndicate. Should we take this to a
less public place” Lomax interrupted and pointed to a free interview room. When they had
settled in Marco continued.
“I don’t want to compromise my friend’s position so I’ll leave his name out of the equation.
What he found is there have been a number of enquiries from at least six Syndicates and
two “outside” interests. One of which related to the Kinray Group’s recent acquirements;
hence my turning to Mr Glass. It was he who decided that the information could help you
with your current investigations.” He went on to list all the archive enquiries and the source
of the enquiries. It was an interesting list. One surprise in the list was an enquiry by the
Helicosian Industry Consortium; they were a recent development by way of an alternative
investment opportunity for the Buraxin sector to gain a foothold in Sonoran Trust markets.
Mainly concerned with money markets, the H.I.C. as they preferred to call themselves,
allowed Buraxin Traders a source to local banking establishments. Just why they had taken
an interest in the City Hall archives was a puzzle. As the detectives were now finding, the
local interest seemed to have a less than legitimate interest.
“Mr Lydissian; you have given us a source of information we were starting to take an
interest in, but what you have supplied has greatly expanded that line of enquiry. Is there a
reason of self-interest here? You are the erstwhile head of the “Boys Cartel” after all. We
could arrange for a protection detail if that may be necessary.” Lomax said after Marco
finished.
“It may not come to that. We are quite capable of looking out for ourselves; it goes with the
territory. But I would ask that you consider calling on our services in the “information
gathering” business. We tend to hear things most others don’t” Marco said coyly in reply
“Point taken” Lomax laughed” Thank you for this, do you need a lift back to the centre of
town?” Lomax asked
“That won’t be necessary I have two of my associates waiting for me. Oh there is one more
thing. Another friend of mine was recently the victim of a nasty attack, the killer disfigured
