“I am Mr Glass. So you can see that I could be of further use should the time come you need
me. We of the “Boys Cartel” get to hear things we shouldn’t, but by our terms of service, we
do not tell, unless it’s for the right price.” Marco said in response smiling.
“You can leave us Renworth, the young man and I have things to discuss” Mortimer
dismissed Renworth and eyed Marco up and down. Marco was of slim build, and as was the
fashion, had his raven locks slicked close to his scalp. He was dusky skinned and lithe of
musculature. Mortimer could see himself falling for this young lothario. He could see
potential in the boy and he was the right age.
“I don’t know if you have heard, but I graduated from the Assassins Foundation. One of the
directives a graduate must, at some time, adhere to is that they should surrender the name
of a possible student. Would you be interested in such an enterprise Marco?” Glass asked
with a sly look in his face.
“Tempting, I do have a vicious streak, some of my “clients” like to be hurt … very well, if you
would arrange it. Now as to business, the information is about City Hall…”
Lomax and Dreck had acquired some files from City Hall including blueprints for the
redevelopment of the area that included Grindor Acres. Some of the designs were never
used and had simply been shelved. But they did show that the area where the Stadium was
originally to be built had been reclaimed from a silted up lake and river bed. It would have
meant a considerable expense in complicated foundations. So the whole development was
re-sited. The reclaimed area now formed part of the parkland. But had also once been the
site of a Chemical works, The Lucerne Family joint owned the Kirov Industries plant that had
refined the base materials for Sintivar Multi-Crete. The Spaceport was to have been built
nearby, but ended being moved out to the site of the old aerodrome.
“What did our man want with these plans I wonder” Lomax said absentmindedly out lout.
“I’ve been looking at earlier layouts of the site. That region of the Sintivar plant had a
settling reservoir. Back then they used de-mineralised water to wash out the impurities of
the mined material. Before that there had been a waterway to the docks at Hedebar and
Bedlam, which then extended to the river. During the war with the northern territory
separatists it became a loading dock for the delivery barges carrying the explosives down to
the Munitions works in Hedebar.” Dreck read from the notes he’d made while in the
Archives.
“The Sintivar process could have caused a pollution hazard, but it didn’t. The owner of the
Kirov works also had a partnership with The Carnegie Corporation in the Sintivar plant. The
Chemical plant also made some of the compounds used in Trinite and Vulvanite. At one time
a member of the Lucerne family was married to Silas Carnegie. What happened to her?”
Lomax queried. Krank and Hurden came back in just at that point and related the findings at
the Lucerne Mansion
“I can answer your question Steve. Her name was Fiona Christina Lucerne. She wasn’t
married to Silas but his brother. She was found dead after the failure of the Sintivar business
it was ruled a suicide. She’d had a good part of her fortune tied up in the place, he was
supposedly killed when the Vishtaan Wharf was bombed. He shouldn’t have been there
apparently. Silas was taking his revenge on the other Syndicate boss; he didn’t know his
