UNIT III BASICS OF PNEUMATICS AND HYDRAULICS SYSTEM 9
Operational principles and application, air compressors, Pneumatic cylinders and air motors, Pneumatic
valves, Design of pneumatic circuits. Principles of hydraulics, Hydraulic fluids, Hydraulic- pumps,
valves, and actuators. Power pack design layout, Basic hydraulic circuits.
UNIT IV MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL ACTUATION SYSTEMS 9
Mechanical actuation System: Mechanical system - types of motion - Kinematic chain - cams - Gear
Trains - Ratchet and pawl - Belt and chain drives - Bearings - Mechanical aspects of Motor selection.
Electrical actuation system: Electrical Systems - Mechanical switches - Solid state switches - Solenoids
- Stepper motor
UNIT V PROGRAMMABLE LOGIC CONTROLLER 9
Introduction - Basic structure - Input/output processing - programming - Mnemonics - Timers, relays
and counters - Shift registers - Data handling - Analogue input/output - Selection of PLC - Simple
problems
