Mathematical Literacy
ในปี ค.ศ. 2021 PISA ได้ให้ความสำคัญสำหรับการสอบวิชาคณิตศาสตร์อีกครั้ง (จากเดิมในปี ค.ศ. 2003
และ 2012) และได้ให้นิยามของคำว่า “ความฉลาดรู้ด้านคณิตศาสตร์ (mathematical literacy)”
ซึ่งแตกต่างจากนิยามในการสอบที่ผ่านมาดังนี้

Mathematical literacy is …
An individual’s capacity to reason mathematically and to formulate, employ, and
interpret mathematics to solve problems in a variety of real-world contexts.
It includes concepts, procedures, facts and tools to describe, explain and predict
phenomena. It assists individuals to know the role that mathematics plays in the
world and to make the well-founded judgments and decisions needed by

constructive, engaged and reflective 21 century citizens.

ข้อควรระวัง ศัพท์เทียบบัญญัติของคำว่า “mathematical literacy”
การสอบ PISA ในอดีตที่ผ่านมาจนถึงปี 2018 คำว่า “mathematical Literacy” จะใช้คำศัพท์ภาษาไทยเป็น
“การรู้เรื่องคณิตศาสตร์” แต่ในปัจจุบันได้มีการใช้คำว่า “ความฉลาดรู้ด้านคณิตศาสตร์” แทน
