Sometimes the high school band is passed off
as a rather "do nothing" group. This idea can easily
be reversed by naming our activities.
It's been a busy year for the RHS bandsmen.
Starting in the summer the group got out of their
concert chairs, were joined by a new drum major
and four majorettes and marched in the Eagle's Day
Parade. This was followed by the Shrine Bowl Parade
and game in August.
Band Members' feet were given a rest as the
RHS band entertained at the Douglas and Sarpy
County Fairs. Both, unfortunately, were interrupted
by rain. The other concert engagement for the band
during the summer months was the Post Office Dedi
cation at which Representative Glenn Cunningham not
only spoke, but directed the band as well.
After the start of school the RHS marchers
really wore down the turf practicing for the
As-Sar-Ben Rodeo, where they recieved an Excellent
rating. Ralston was invited to participate in the
annual University of Nebraska Band Day in Lincoln.
A few weeks later the band went to the State Marchine
Contest, also held in Lincoln. They were awarded an
"When will those Jr. High kids ever learn the excellent rating which was especially appreciated since
difference between their left and right feet?" this was their first year in Class A competition
