All-State Music Clinic was held in Hastings,
November 19 and 21. Ralston was represented
by Kathy Lehn as first bassoonist in the band,
and Gwen Marolf, trumpet, in the orchestra.
Mr. Chalupa and Mrs. Marolf accompanied them.
February 7, the Concert Band held its annual
winter concert. The theme for the concert was
a "Salute to Band Graduates." Honored guests
       were Joyce Johnson, Karen Yager, H a n k
Hultquist, Mike Kennedy, LeMoyne Johnson, Dick
Johnson, and Helen Jackson. They presented
several numbers accompanied by the band. The
next big event for the band was the District
Music Contest which was held April 23, 24. The
band received their seventh consecutive superior
rating. This was a very special rating because
this was the band's first year in Class A
competition, and they were the only band in this
class to get a superior. On June 4 the band
made their annual trip to Glenwood to play a
       concert for the patients.

"It says right here that this is a march, not a waltz. So
why play it like a waltz?"
