BASKETBALL
This year's edition of the basketball team was, if
nothing else, exciting to watch. Jammed into the sea
son's record of 4-12 were thrills galore and close games
aplenty, with outcomes in doubt often until the final
seconds. Coach Petrovic's men's main problem this past
season was a lack of height. The team was forced to
rely almost exclusively upon Mark Estes and the inex
perienced Jack Mahoney to regain the ball off the back-
boards, but all too often these boys were simply out-
manned by taller, more experienced opposition.
If the team's weak link was its height, its forte was
ball handling. Captain George Fisk, verteran Al De-
Valerio, and newcomers Mike Mittleman were slick ball
handlers all, and provided many thrills for M.B. rooters
with their passing and dribbling.
Not to be forgotten is sophomore Chip Celestino,
top scorer, and strong contender for All-Prep honors.
Chip's jump shot was a thing to watch, as it found its
way straight for the basket. Reserves Dick Sauber and
the hustling Dave Piccus, who filled in admirably in
many a game, freshman Jim Mahoney, who seems
destined for stardom, and senior Mark Hough rounded
out the sguad.
