VERNON BISHOP DOWER, JR.
Baseball, Letter, IV, V, VI; Basketball, IV, Letter, V; Cross-Country, VI; Foot
ball, IV; Glee Club, V; Soccer, V.
Vern, in his three year stay at Moses Brown, has distinguished
himself on several accounts. His most outstanding accomplishment,
and accomplishment it is, is his eye-catching coif. His long blond
locks, carefully combed and distribufed about his eyes, ears, and
jacket collar, have rapidly become a Dower trademark. "Dummy"
is unique also in the sense that in his three years here he has par
ticipated in three different fall sports— football, soccer, and cross
country. (What, no fall tennis?) But fear not, Vern is an accom
plished athlete, marvelously skilled in many sports. To his credit
are three varsity letters in baseball, one in basketball, and one in
wrestling. W e suspect very strongly that if Vern ever gets the hair
out of his eyes long enough to chart a course for himself, it will
be a good one.
NICHOLAS WILLIAM EASTON
Basketball, IV; Broadcasting Club, V; Cross Country, Varsity, VI; Delphian,
VI; Flying Club, V; Football, IV; Glee Club, IV, V; Lacrosse, IV Varsity,
V, Letter, VI; Proscenium Club, V. VI; Quaker, V, Club Editor, VI; Soccer,
V; U.N. Club, V.
If you tell Nick Easton the grass is green, he'll insist it's red.
And, like as not, he'll prove it. Nick is a mimic; so perhaps a list
of names, idols, or what-not will do: Bob Dylan, Gulley Jimson, Paul
McCartney, Bob Dylan, Mima Farina, Dave Espo, Jim Kweskin.
Bob Dylan, Smokey Robinson, Napoleon Bonaparte, Joan Baez,
Bob Dylan, and Donovan. Nick won fame this year as expose editor
of the Quaker, and despite frequent and violent threats to start a
rival paper, he nearly always met his deadline. A cross country
man, the angriest of the Proscenium Club Pros, and a shining star
for the "giant's " Lacrosse team, Nick's athletic achievements are
matched only by his brilliant management of the Nitle . . . er,
Laymen. W e all love Nick, and suspect that everyone else does,
too.
DAVID MICHAEL ESPO
Baseball, III, IV, V, Varsity, VI; Basketball, III, IV, V, VI; Dance Committee,
III; Delphiarf, V, Assistant Editor, VI; Football, Manager, VI; French Club, III,
IV, V; Mosaic, V, Associate Editor, VI; Quaker, IV, V, Assistant Editor, VI;
Soccer, III, IV, V.
With his flock of "assistant" editorships, Dave is an unsung
achiever in the Class of '67. A charter member of the publica
tions club, he has probably done far more work than most of his
pencil-pushing cohorts. A sometime visitor to the honor roll, he
received finalist status from the Merit Scholarship Corporation,
not to mention early acceptance to a little-known Bible school just
across the border from Camden, N .J.: Haverford. The ticklish
Paleface, a hurler for the baseball team whose devotion to the
Mosaic forced him to sacrifice basketball, revelled in completely
untenable arguments until he met his match in Nick Easton. As
our editorial writer supreme heads down to Pa. next fall, we hope
that both fortune and Red Smith smile down upon him.
