And we were swingin ’
The 21 choir members busied their schedules during the
year with workshops, banquets, luncheons, college visits and
concerts.
The choir performed for students at Kearney State College
in January, sang for residents at the Hill Haven Rest Home in
February, sang at a dinner at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church,
a Faith Presbyterian Youth Banquet and a Jewish Community
Center Luncheon.
Cabaret Night, March 2, was a big hit for the choir. The
Swing Choir and The New Horizons combined to put on a
two-hour performance in the cafeteria. The cafeteria was
decorated with streamers, balloons and twinkling candles on
the tables. The audience was not only treated to fine singing
and dancing, but also to homemade cake and Goodrich ice
cream.
The 21 received a superior rating at the district music
contest. The members did superior work together, but also
faired well alone in solos and small groups. Junior Kris
Lauritsen received an excellent rating in the category of Girls’
High Voice, senior Tina Stevens received an excellent rating
for Girls’ Medium Voice, senior Yurij Szelewycz received a
good rating for Boys’ Medium Voice and senior Chris Thackray
earned a superior rating in Boys’ Low Voice. Seniors Beth
Selinger and Debi Steen paired up to receive a superior rating
for a duet. Sophomore Leisl Miller joined with a varsity choir
member, senior Liz Larson, to perform a duet which received
an excellent rating.
