The 1977 Delhaas Tiger football team ac­
                                                                                                complished many of its goals during the sea­
                                                                                                son.  It  was  the  first  winning  season since
                                                                                                Delhaas became a high school in 1972. It was
                                                                                                also a season which saw the Tigers defeat
                                                                                                Pennsbury for the first time in 22 years. The
                                                                                                Tigers for the first time were also a threat
                                                                                                to become the league champions.
                                                                                                  The season began with four consecutive
                                                                                                wins, including one over state-ranked St. Jo­
                                                                                                seph’s Prep, and a total domination of league
                                                                                                foe.  Maple  Point  (35-7).  The  thirty-five
                                                                                                points scored against the Cougars were the
                                                                                                most  ever  by  a  Delhaas  team.  After  the
                                                                                                opening  four  wins  the  Tigers  went  into  a
                                                                                                slight  tailspin before rebounding to defeat
                                                                                                Pennsbury (13-0) and brighten their chances
                                                                                                of a league title. A loss to Council Rock the
                                                                                                following  week  dimmed  all  the  champion­
                                                                                                ship hopes.
                                                                                                  The Tigers finished the campaign with a
                                                                                                6-4 record and a bright outlook for the com­
                                                                                                 ing year. It  is a great  tribute to the Tiger
                                                                                                seniors who led the team into respectability.
                                                                                                 It  was  the  hard  work  and  dedication  of
                                                                                                 these senior athletes that removed Delhaas
                                                                                                 from the "soft-touch" category into a power
                                                                                                 to be reckoned with.
                                                                                                   The  coaches  and  underclassmen  owe  a
                                                                                                 great deal to the seniors, whose leadership
                                                                                                 will  be  missed.  They  have  helped  lay  the
                                                                                                 foundation for what appears to be a strong
                                                                                                 football  program.  If  these  young  men  put
                                                                                                 forth the same effort in buildjng their lives,
                                                                                                 they  will  find  the  same  success  they
                                                                                                 achieved  on  the  field.  The  senior  Tigers
