After graduating from Bob Jones University in 1978 with a
B.S. in Health and Physical Education, Miss Vickie Grooms
started her teaching and coaching career at M arquette
Manor Christian Academy in Chicago. She completed her
M aster’s at the University of Illinois in 1982. In 1984 the
Lord laid on her heart the ministry of M aranatha Baptist
Bible College in Wisconsin. While there, she developed a
strong friendship with Miss Sue Hermes. "Our first extended
conversation was about the grace of God, and over the many
years of our friendship, He has been the ongoing theme of
our love for one another. Dr. Denny's passion for the Lord
has been a consistent challenge to my life," Miss Hermes
said. Having a desire to continue her education, Miss
Grooms enrolled at Ohio State while she cared for her fa
ther. She came to the college in 1989 and completed her
doctorate in Physical Education/Teacher Education at
Florida State University in 1992.
"Coach is an incredibly
driven woman. It is evi
dent in her coaching strat
egies and her teaching
skills. The discipline she
exemplifies in her life is an
example to anyone she
comes in contact with.
She has always pushed
me to be a better player
and a better student. She
gets involved in the lives
of her students and ath
letes and wants to see us
do our best for the glory
of God. Not only does
she push us in sports and
v ic k ie studies, but we are constantly challenged by her to better our
spiritual walk with Christ. This is at the forefront of any goals
denny she directs toward her players and students. To write about all
the things I have learned from Coach Denny would take a long
time. I admire her for her discipline, drive, determination, and
most importantly her relationship with God" - jenny Coodson
