ovington Catholic students time and time
again go above and beyond with service. One
I student in particular has demonstrated
extraordinary dedication to service. Senior Ben
Schieman has completed 500 hours of service,
was the recipient of the Spirit of Community
Service Award his sophomore year, and will
have received four varsity letters for community
service by the time he is off to college.
Included among his service projects are
volunteering at St. Elizabeth in Guest Services,
Nutrition Services, and Registration, as well as,
pursuing various activities at St. Pius X,
Edgewood Soccer, St. Charles and Madonna
Manor Nursing Homes, BeConcerned, the
Urban Lexington Improvement Project, and his
own project he led: building fitness stations at
Freedom Park. In this project, his noticing the
need for the addition of fitness stations led to
his taking action to obtain donations, purchase
and prepare supplies, work in cohorts with the
Edgewood Public Works to prepare grounds,
and obtain workers to physically help construct
the stations. He now must maintain them, as
well.
Quite clearly, Ben is a model student when
it comes to service. He has shown selflessness
and compassion that all students at CovCath
should show. He has gone above and beyond
the required call to service, and has bettered
the CovCath community as well as the outside
community.
