                                                                              Trip Facts


                                                             Germany is the most populous European country (apart from
                                                             Russia), with a population of 81  million.


                                                             German people are the second biggest consumers of beer in
                                                             the world (after the Irish), with an average of 119 litres per
                                                             person per year (or 0.32 I per day).
                                                             Dachau was primarily a camp for men; it was used to incarcerate
                                                             Communists, Social Democrats, trade union leaders, religious
                                                             dissidents, common criminals, Gypsy men, homosexuals, asocials,
                                                             spies, resistance fighters, and others who were considered "enemies of
                                                             the state."
                                                             The Alps comprise about 180 mountains, from 4,000 to 15,732
                                                             feet high, the latter being the height of Mount Blanc, the
                                                             highest spot in Europe.
