The sacrifices student leaders make in their schedules generate
life in the campus clubs. Behind all the club-sponsored activi
ties, there must be a dose of hard work and inspiration.
Alesha Terry swallowed the lump in her throat, picked up the telephone, and
dialed the number. She wasn't calling one of her friends to chit-chat. Instead,
she was dialing the number of a local business to talk about the drama club
and opportunities for contributions. Although some take only a passing inter
est in the campus clubs, others, like Alesha, pour their time and energy into
these organizations, providing the momentum behind the groups. As she said,
“The time commitment is enormous! Much goes on behind the scenes to
make a show go smoothly." These students not only motivate others to get in
volved in the clubs but also provide the “elbow grease" to pull the activities off
the ground.
Club sponsors appreciate the invaluable roles that students provide. For
example, the leaders in the drama club help run meetings, play active roles in
organizing fund-raisers like Improv, and in turn encourage their own sponsors.
“We never have a meeting or activity when I am not brought to laughter (and
many times to tears) and that is such a blessing in the stressful lives we lead,"
drama club leader Dr. Melissa Frame said.
Drama Club is only one among the many orga-
nizations in which students have stepped up to the re-
sponsibilities involved. The Spanish Club, the newest A t a meeting,
of the campus clubs, has since flourished as multi-cul
tural. Students became excited about a time to talk to we normally will
others in their own native language. Marta Galdamez
explained that the club provides time to “enjoy fellow commence with
ship on campus, including prayer, Bible studies, and
prayer, songs, and a
words of encouragement. ” With active student partici
pation, the campus clubs can indeed be a source of small devotional.
