Seasoning adds flavor, variety, and spice. So do organizations.
Although students’ courses and Christian service activities help
prepare them to be salt and light in an unsavory and dim world,
the demanding routine can drain their energy and enthusiasm.
Consequently, the college encourages participation in Greeks, cam
pus clubs, and corresponding activities to “spice up” students’
schedules, providing refreshing moments of fellowship with oth
ers and unique opportunities for learning and discovery. Mark
9:50 states, “Salt is good: but il the salt have lost his saltness, where
with will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one
with another.” To be effective salt and light, students must pre
pare and study to point the world in the right direction, to Jesus
Christ. They also need the variety provided by organizations to
add seasoning to their lives. As a result, they should not approach
college demands with reluctance as an unbroken routine, but rather
with rejuvenation, having discovered new pastimes to savor.
