Sarah Custer "Don't be discouraged when hard times
come. These hard times are what God uses to make us
stronger and build character. Looking back on the hard
time that I've had, it's when I've been closest to the Lord."
During the spring semester of her junior year, Sarah
was hospitalized for a week due to a blood disease.
"It's something the Lord's used in my life to depend on
Him for strength, especially since I don't know what the
future holds." Her plans after graduation include getting
married and teaching music "wherever the Lord leads."

Liza Pastrana graduated in December. JoEllen Smith was an great influ
ence in her life. "We're roommates this year. We're going through the same
thing-internship. It's always good to have someone who understands, and
you can talk to at the same time. Usually when I'm stressed or overwhelmed,
she helps me get my focus back on God through a verse or a note that she
leaves me." She advocates "a balance between having a social life and aca
demics. For freshmen it's easy to just start making new friends, exploring,
enjoying the college life, but if they don't spend time in their academics,
they'll suffer for it in their junior and senior years."
Upon graduation, Ruth Gagne will be commissioned asan
active duty intelligence officer in the Air Force. A general
studies major, she's enjoyed the "freedom to get classes
done here and spend the time at USF for ROTC. I've taken
some psychology classes that have helped me better relate
to the people that I'll be leading." She encourages others
to "have high standards and be willing to work for them.
Even if something seems unattainable, let God take care of
it. Do your best and let God do the rest. Don't limit yourself
as to what you can do. Also, make sure you're always living
with character. You never know the people you're going
◄ to impact."
