one flame grew into 56 separate
flames, separate goals. The flames
went out and new inductees of the i icncrable
National Honor Society (NHS) returned
to their seats.
The induction of the members!
happened officially on March 11 a t:
the Holiday Inn Party Room, but the
thrill came on Feb. 22 when the
1983-84 members went from room to
room searching out the new additions
to the club for 1984-85.
During the second hour class
period each new inductee was invited
to the auxiliary gym for a welcome
speech, juice and rolls.
A new rule for the NHS constitution
was changed in each NHS chapter, so
the new rule was explained. New
members are required to be involved
in a service project within the group,
and one on an individual basis.
Cheryl Blue, NHS sponsor, ex
plained, "Most often on college
applications the area that is left blank
is service. It is an important part of the
application though."
A peer tutoring system is the
service project that will be tested out
this year.
Harold Blatt, NHS sponsor, said,
“We are just going to try it out and
see how it works. If it is successful, it
will most likely be used next year."
The system is set up on the
outside of the library for anyone who
might need help.
An easy sen
tence to sum
up the new NHS
is congratulations
for a job well done!
