Free-spirited Thoughts of the controversy about
even allowing a ski club to exist this
year were still in the minds of the
_participating students. The question
=they had asked themselves was, will
"there or won't there be a 1984 ski
club?
According to Bob Benzel, ski club
sponsor, during the 1983 trip, nine boys
were caught under the influence of
alcohol on the last night in Frisco,
Colorado where the condominiums
were.
Prior to leaving on this trip, rules of
no alcoholic beverages were stressed
at meetings held before their depar
ture day of March 29. It was agreed
by all students that the rules outlined
by sponsors, Jan Rowley, Bob Benzel
and Jim McGrath would be followed.
"There won't be a ski club at
Ralston anymore," were the first words
out of the administrators' mouths after
hearing the news.
McGrath said that the sponsors
didn't give up. They believed that the
kids deserved another chance to
prove that they could be responsible.
The ski club drafted a new trip
contract that was outlined in detail at
a meeting on Oct. 13. New restrictions
included the ski club sponsor's right to
search all luggage at their request, a
check for $140 made out to the ski
club to be cashed for a plane
ticket home if
drinking, and a

istration said they
hoped it would
solve the problem,

school gets the
chance to have a
