couldn't believe I was in
                    France, but the Eiffel Tow-
( 0 er was right out my plane
             window!" said Donna Johnston,
           North American Cultural Exchange
         (NACEL) participant. B I L I N G U A L
              Amy Mechede added from her
         experiences last summer, "The feeling
you get when you step off the plane
         is indescribable. Actually looking down
and thinking I'm in France makes your
         heart skip a beat!"
              Traveling abroad is something
that only a few are lucky enough to
experience. It is the result of a lot of
hard work by either raising the money
yourself, or earning the trip through a
         club.
Those clubs at Ralston are the
French Club and the Spanish Club.
"French Club is a great way to
earn the money you need to go to
Canada or France. All French classes
are allowed to join, but you don't go
on the trip until French 5. You earn
money for the group going that year.
The points are used to represent
         money from the fund-raisers," Melissa
Medley explained at the French Club
         Carnival Saturday, Oct. 29.
Another reason to visit a foreign
         country was because of relatives.
One begins to wonder how fair it is to
have grandparents who live in Por
tugal, Italy, or Denmark! Maria Del
gado was one to use this excuse to
          leave the USA.
            "Germany is the most beautiful
country I've ever seen. Not only is the
          countryside beautiful, but the towns
are inhabited by some of the most
interesting people I've been able to
         talk to.
I was very lucky to have had
         the chance to
          go to East Ger
          many. Now they
          won't let any
         one in there.
         I think everyone
         should travel be
         cause it's an ex
         perience you de
         finitely can't read
         about in a te xt
         book!" Delgado
         explained.
           All that is needed
         to have before go
         ing are shots, pass
         ports and an ade
         quate amount of mon
         ey. The most impor
         tant, of course, is an
open mind to let all the
         new knowledge pour in!
