or 15 minutes ail of Ralston was
silent. There wasn't the usual
clatter of students moving
around or the teachers lecturing The
Intellectual only slight noise that could be heard
was the page turning of 3,248
students.
It all started on Nov. 14 with the
idistribution of stickers with initials
G.R.A.B. (Go Read A Book). Teachers
also recived buttons. All were encour
aged to show their pride and wear
them throughout the week.
Entering the second day a jar of
book titles was set out for the "how
many titles in the ja r" contest.
Thursday, senior Rod Harder won the
prize of a thesaurus.
In honor of book week, amnesty
was given on Wednesday. This day all
over-due library books were accept
ed without fines. The 15 minute silent
reading was also held on Wednesday.
The big, book swap was held on
Thursday. Students brought in books to
exchange them for “new" ones that
other students brought in.
"\ don't think the book swap was
as successful as it could have been,"
library aide, Joanne Nelson said. “The
reminders we made up did not get in
the announcements."
Bringing up the tail end of the
week was National Button Day. All
buttons of varying sayings were worn
on this day.
The feeling on National Book
Week was that it wasn't advertised
enough. Junior Sharon Krebs
said, "I never
really knew any
thing about it.
It needed a lot
more publicity."
As of now it
is not known if this
event will be re
peated next year,
but Nelson thinks it
would be a good
idea.
