Gymnastics takes work
Gymnastics is a tough sport, and is hard to learn. "It was hard to
learn at first but once I saw the move, I could pick it up pretty easily.
This is my first year in gymnastics, but I plan on staying in gymnastics
throughout my four years in high school because I enjoy it so much I
joined gymnastics this year because I have been interested in it for quite
some time," said freshman Jim Tracy. Weightlifting also helps build up
the muscles in both your arms and legs for the strength you need to
execute moves. "Strength-wise, the pommel horse is the hardest piece
of equipment to work on and the rings and the highbar are also the
hardest to work on because you have to maneuver your body around
them."
The sport also involves a lot of disappointment and frustration.
Freshman Mike Wicker could not compete through the gymnastics
season due to a knee injury. Wicker had micro-scopic surgery done on
the injured knee to remove damaged cartilage.
Freshman Luke Grabowski makes his
presentation to the judges before he
makes his mount on the pommel
horse.
Senior Chris Kohler performs the
scissors on the pommel horse at one
of Ralston's home meets.
