Pounding the pavement
A total of seven girls and 13 boys made Ralston's 83-84
cross country team. About the season coach Gary Dubbs
stated, "It wouldn't be fair to say that this is the best cross
country team at Ralston, but, it's the best I've coached
since being here."
The girls cross country team ran well during the 83-84
season with junior Therese Fitzpatrick proving to be the
strongest runner for the team. Fitzpatrick placed 7th at
state, and placed high not only in other invitationals, but
Ralston's own invitational.
As a team, the girls placed first in the Ralston
Invitational, and Coach Dubbs said, "It was a pleasant
surprise to see the girls team finish first."
Stated Dubbs, "A total of four returning seniors form
the core for the boys cross country team. Todd Simchuk
has improved considerably from last year." Simchuk was
the strongest runner on the boys team placing 2nd at state.
Another senior, John Quandahl, was unable to compete for
the first part of the season due to mononucleosis, said sZnloL c.h° rlle Verbruoae stays one step
