Biblical Studie*
Noted for his broad range of , —— ~ — — _ — ................ ... ,
knowledge on a variety of topics in
cluding Biblical issues and historical
events and trends, Dr. Oliver’s fa
vorite topic of personal study and
interest is the life of General George
Armstrong Custer. He is somewhat
an authority of Custer’s career and
legacy. His comments about Custer
are entertaining and intriguing to any
history buff.
Like all professors, Dr. Oliver
spends hours of personal study in
preparation for the classroom. Stu Fulfilling the Task
dents reward his and his colleague’s
hard work by consistently rating the
Division of Biblical Studies highest with Faithfullness.
overall in opinion survey.
The Division of Biblical Studies is currently the fastest
growing division of the college. The Dean of Academics
attributes the increase in enrollment to the excellent
faculty who serve so faithfully. Under the leadership of Dr.
Kenneth Brown are Dr. Norman P. Spotts, Mr. Robert W.
Carver, and Dr. Edward T. Oliver. Dr. Brown came to the
college directly from the pastorate but spent most of his
career as a professor in other fundamental institutions. The
latter three have 49 years of service to CCC between them.
Dr. Spotts came to the college in 1970. Mr. Carver and Dr.
Oliver arrived in 1977. These four men form an extremely
stable and competent team preparing students well for
their respective callings into Christian ministry.
Dr. Oliver, now fully recovered from open heart surgery,
which he underwent in 1989, resumed his normal teaching
schedule consisting of English Bible, Philosophy, Church
History, and Modern Religious Issues. A graduate of
Shelton College and Faith Theological Seminary, he also
holds an honorary doctor of divinity from Shelton. Dr.
Oliver served as an administrator and Bible faculty
member at Shelton for 12 years before relocating to
Clearwater Christian College in 1977.
Although not an "easy" teacher, Dr. Oliver is certainly
loved by his students and colleagues. We are thankful for
his years of service and pray he will continue to have good
health in order that he may teach for years to come.
