HIS year, under the able direction of Coach "Abe” Impagliazzo, Moses Brown
entered its second season with a thoroughly organized wrestling team. Among
those who helped make the team a success are Bruce Richardson, "Ace” Bshara,
Meiklejohn, and Grinnell, all on the team last year.

1 he first meet was held in the gymnasium February 5, when Moses Brown made a good
start by defeating East Providence High School by the close margin of 18£ to ll\. In this meet
Frank Wood showed himself to advantage by wrestling far above his class in weight. With
two overtime periods the bout was called a draw. The "Ace” was forced to default because of
an arm injury, but Weisker in the 110-pound class and Wilkins in the 155-pound class pro
vided the thrills of the afternoon by defeating their men by falls. Sam Peckham in the 118-
pound class and Clark Chase were taken by falls, but Johnny Steere and Richardson both won
their bouts by the referee’s decision.

In the next meet "Woodie” again took the spotlight by throwing the Thayer Academy
representative in a spectacular bout. Bruce Richardson won his keenly contested match by a
time advantage. "Rich” Mowry and Johnny Steere also brought home honors, as did Wilkins.
With the only defeat in the 135-pound class, the final score stood at 21-5.
The "Ace” was still out when the able Cranston High team sent Moses Brown down to
defeat on February 12. Sam Peckham defeated his man with a good time advantage, and
Richardson pinned his man, as did "Rich" Mowry when he threw a man ten pounds heavier
than himself. As we failed to win the other bouts, this meet was chalked against Moses Brown.

The Providence Country Day School meet in East Providence was an 18-18 deadlock.
Weisker again won by a fall in the 110-pound class, as did Meiklejohn and Bshara. Peckham
won his match with a time advantage, although we dropped the others.

The final dual meet was at St. George’s School in Middletown, where we went to defeat
by the score of 25 to 9 in an unusual meet in which not a single fall was registered, so keen was
the competition. Weisker, Richardson, and Bshara all starred by winning their matches.
The wind-up of the season occurred at the Brown Interscholastics on March 20 and 21.
Richardson proved his mettle by gaining the title in the 145-pound class. Weisker drew a bye
in the first round, and Bshara won his first bout by a fall. Chase, Wood, Mowry, and Aldrich
                lost hard-fought battles.

In the semi-finals, Weisker lost by the referee’s decision, and both Richardson and Bshara
kept on the list by defeating their men by the referee’s decision and a fall respectively.

In the finals Bshara lost to the class state champion, Sarris of Roger High, while Richard
son received a title after a lapse of four years by triumphing over his East Providence man.

Thus another season was ended for the Moses Brown wrestling team. Throughout the
year the matches have been witnessed by a large group of enthusiastic supporters who have
helped the team greatly by their show of spirit. This spirit, shown by the student body, com
bined with the ability of the team and the coach to give us a first-class team.
