Nat Goldberg and Dermott McCann, representing
a never named "organization," arrive for an overnight
stay at Meg and Petey Brooks' boarding house. They
have come to punish Stanley Webber for his defection
from that group. By means of a demented birthday par
ty, Goldberg and McCann destroy Stanley's personality
and take him away.
Throughout, a typically picturesque horror hovers
over the group, never named and never resisted. It is a
mildly distorted parable of man's surrender in the face
of evil, and his inability and unwillingness to come to
terms with it. Director Fr. Thomas Kolar, more than anyone the reason for St.
Thomas' dramatic success, checks the lighting equipment to be used
for Birthday Party.
