he diversity of the team and the unity it was able to achieve were
just two great aspects of Lady Cougars. Each girl had her own
strong points. The girls on the team who had played soccer were
noted for their quickness and were nicknamed the “go team.” There
were several tall girls who were good at rebounding and several who
were good at handling the ball. Yet, with all these differences that
made up a good team, there was one thing lacking at the beginning
of the season-unity. But that changed with the
winterim trip. Both the coaches and players
agreed after the trip that they were a different
team. Before the trip, they had a high ratio of
losses to wins. After the trip, they flipped the
ratio around and kept on winning. One such
game which gives evidence to this unity was the
one at Atlanta Christian. Assistant Coach Matt
Kellogg said, “Offense, defense, and every
member of the team came ready to play. It was
a beautiful thing. We were leading 22-4 after
about six minutes. The game was won in the
first few moments!” The winterim trip gave the
girls an opportunity to form bonds and
friendships that they did not have
MELANIE FITZGERALD, ONE before. These bonds off the court
of the girls on the “go team,”
never takes her eyes off the helped them to play better as a team
ball. “Being a part of this team on the court. “It is always a blessing to
was a great experience, not see the Lord’s hand in how our team is
only in playing the game, but in
the friendships and bonds that assembled each year,” said Coach
were made.” Kellogg. “The way they pray for and
encourage each other is a blessing.
They truly want each of their team
members to succeed and play well.”
