ack in 1996, Dr. McEntire established a golf club with
the intention of eventually having an intercollegiate golf
team in the future. Six year later, Dr. McEntire was granted
his wish. The 2002 golf team was the first official team in
the college’s history. It consisted of nine players, with five
participating in a game. Each player played a round of golf
with an opponent, and the team with the lowest average score
from all five players won.
Rich Dunsford, a starter
for the team, said, “For the

During a game, it
was challenging to stay mentally focused. Christoph von
dem Bussche said, “I learned to perform under pressure
and to keep a cool head even if 1 was not playing well.”
The team proved to be a tough competitor in competition,

A major highlight for the team was winning the
regional championship. The team also won its division at
the national tournament. More important than winning,
however, the members stressed the importance of doing
their best for God during the season. Ryan Stevens said,
“My goals for the season were to please God in all that I
did on and off the golf course and to strive to be the best
player I could be.” With that mind set, the Cougar golf
team finished its first season strong.
