MAHMUT GUL
Gul Mahallesi, Atilla Sukak 25, Antakya-Hatay, Turkey
Of the foreign students in the class of 64,
Mahmut is one of the most notable. He is
twenty-six years old and came from Antioch,
Turkey, a town of Biblical fame. Mahmut is
studying English at Moses Brown, for he
plans to teach English when he returns to
Turkey. At school, he also assists Mr. Stinch-
field, he is a corridor master on the East
Wing, and he is in charge of library first
period.
Mahmut comes from a typical Turkish
family. He is one of nine children. His
four sisters are married, and three of his
brothers are students. Mahmut's father owns
a machine shop in Antioch. Mahmut made
contact with M. B. two years ago, but pass
port trouble delayed his arrival. On his way
to the U. S., Mahmut visited the Middle
East, Istanbul, Rome, Paris, and New York.
His greatest thrill was going to the top of
the Empire State Building. Mahmut hopes
that before returning to Turkey, he will be
able to see a great deal of the United States.
We wish Mahmut the best of luck in his
future endeavors and we hope that he 11 be
able to tell the people in Turkey about the
greatness of America and about the friendli
ness of the American people.

Scott is a walking grape vine of current
events, ranging from foreign affairs to Mr.
Herman. His knowledge and willingness to
divulge his information have kept many
people informed of gossip, announcements,
and events; and his appreciative audience
affectionately nickname him . the "rubber-
mouth.'’ A history enthusiast, Scott faith
fully memorized his weekly U. S. News. His
tory is undoubtedly his forte — or is it
French? A Georgian from down around
Augusta way, the rebel, whose voice was of
ten heard ringing through the corridors,
always fretted over losing his sexy, southern
drawl because of the ribbing he takes when
the hometowners find a Yankee in their
midst. A member of the infamous Upper
North corridor of '62-63, Scott was tennis
captain his senior year working side by
side with Mr. Sulloway, infamous Upper
North master, in order to develop a success
ful tennis team. But Scott will most be re
membered for his diligence doing calisthen
ics and his marathon card games with
