Ring Day May 21, 1995
The sun rose on May 21, 1995. For the graduating class
of 1996, it was a special day. W e were going to be official
seniors. It was ring day, and our legacy was going to
begin. When I got to school that day, I remember feeling
weird. I was in school on a Sunday — 1 had to be crazy.
We went to our homeroom s, and I remember feeling
apprehensive; I wanted to get there already. My whole
class was talking about senior year, and how bittersweet
it was going to be, and how we couldn't believe we were
almost there. People were complaining about getting up
too early, but they knew they couldn't wait to be seniors.
We got to the auditorium, sat down, and that's when
the excitement began. We all had that feeling; something
was about to happen. The principal spoke, the junior
class president spoke, and we began to get our rings. It
was wonderful. I got my ring, felt the velvet box, and I
knew our journey to senioritis had begun. I slipped the
shiny ring on my finger and I felt like the world was mine.
Towards the end of the cerem ony, some girls tired to
start the senior cheer. Mr. Collins was right by us and he
said, "Don't even think about it." For a moment I was
disappointed, but then someone else started it. We did
our senior cheer, and it felt good. Actually, it felt great.
We rubbed it in.
We went downstairs to the lunchroom and everyone
l started turning each other"s rings. It was a beautiful day
i outside, and so we took pictures. Everyone got together
i under the tree in the courtyard and the school photogra-
I pher took a yearbook picture. We did another senior
: cheer then. Man, did we rub it in. And we're still rubbing I
l it in, we're not gonna stop, either. Everyone knew that
: ring day meant something special. As 1 looked at the ring
i on my finger I knew: the class of '96 had arrived.
