THE DUDE RANCH TRIP
As Juniors, we all left the confined domain of Astoria
and ventured together many miles away to the Roseland
Ranch. The weekend was filled with many memorable
moments which none of us will ever forget. We joined
with fellow students, friends, and faculty to encounter
new experiences in an unknown realm with no sky
scrapers, subways, pigeons, pollution, and large masses
of people.
The Dude Ranch facilities offered us many possibilities
to bring us ultimate delight, laughter, joy, and amuse
ment. Of course we cannot forget the odor enhanced
horses that we rode through the beautiful and serene
countryside. Some people had a more memorable time
with horses who were stubborn, belligerent, or too fast.
In Roseland we all roomed with our best friends shar
ing the common goal: to have mad crazy fun and momen
tarily forget all the pressures we abandoned in Astoria.
Many of us were rowdy by participating in chaotic pillow
fights and playing pranks on our friends while they were
sleeping quietly. W e barely slept the whole weekend be
cause we did not want to pause our exhilarating fun. Our
roommates kept us up late by gossiping, partying, and
taking about themselves.
W hat we will most remember about our excursion was
the surprising snowstorm and blackout. We all threw
snowballs at our best friends and our worst enemies. The
blackout was even because it liberated us from our chap
erons control over us. We were able to act wild and run
amok in the shadows without being seen.
The Dude Ranch trip unfortunately came to a quick
close. We were so grateful for the weekend because we
did not have to worry about SATs, term papers, college
prospects, and upcom ing exam s. All of us left with
stronger friendships, new friends, euphoria, and unfor
gettable memories forever to be cherished.
